Core Beliefs with Scripture

  • We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is both self-existent and personal. (Genesis 1:1, 26, John 14:10,26, 15:26)
  • We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. The 66 books, which constitute the Bible, are entirely reliable and truthful, without error in the original writings and contain the complete revelation of God’s will for humanity. The Bible stands as the central authority over our lives, our faith, and our church. (2 Timothy 3:16, Matthew 5:18, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20-21)
  • We believe Jesus Christ, the Son, was and is both fully God and fully man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of humankind, was resurrected bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven where He is now our High Priest and Advocate. He is coming again as King and Judge. At that time, He will complete God’s plan to reestablish His just and righteous rule over all humanity. Jesus Christ is the only provision that God has given for people to be reconciled to Him. His life on earth serves as the model for the Christian life. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Matthew 24:29-31, Revelation 20:11-15)
  • We believe the Holy Spirit is God. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, convict the world of sin and regenerate the believing sinner. He indwells believers at the moment they place their faith in Jesus Christ and endows them with unique spiritual gifts and abilities necessary to live a life that is pleasing to God and personally satisfying. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives by providing affirmation, comfort, guidance and instruction. (John 14:16, 16:8-14, 1 Corinthians 12)
  • We believe human beings are created in the image of God for the purposes of relating to God and, under God’s authority, ruling His creation. Of our God-given free will we disobeyed God and became alienated from Him. This separation resulted in spiritual death for all humankind. Humanity now lives in a state of degeneration and profound need, which can only be rectified by reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ. Without this reconciliation, all people stand under God’s righteous judgment. Humanity, although fallen, maintains the image of God and is, therefore, still dignified and unique. God continues to love us and reach out to us, even though we are hostile to Him. (Genesis 1:26-28, Romans 3:10,23, 5:8, 18-21)
  • We believe Satan is the personal, spiritual adversary of God and God’s followers. He actively opposes the work of the church and the spiritual vitality of Christians. We therefore take seriously the reality of spiritual opposition. Jesus Christ defeated Satan and the only authority he now has over our lives as believers is what we concede to him. He is doomed to final defeat and judgment when Christ returns. (Ephesians 4:27, 6:11-12, 1 Peter 5:8-9, Revelation 20)
  • We believe the church is not a place but a people. It is composed of all those throughout history who place saving faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible refers to the church as the Body of Christ since Jesus is its Head, Chief Cornerstone and Builder. The Church is God’s chosen instrument through which the gospel (good news) of the Kingdom of God is spread. The primary mission of the church is to carry this good news locally and worldwide and to reflect God’s character to the world by relevant social action. God intends all Christians to live their spiritual lives in a corporate context and to faithfully and actively use their time, their talents and their treasure to support the vision and goals of a local church. This context of Christian love relationships is essential to personal and corporate spiritual growth and crucial to maintaining a Christian witness. (John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 12:12-26, Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22, 4:11-16, Matthew 16:18-19, 28:19)
  • We believe there will be a final judgment at which God will assign all people their eternal destinies, either life or judgment. Those who have received the free gift of salvation will receive eternal life; others will live under eternal judgment. Because eternal issues are at stake there is an urgency to communicate the gospel. (John 5:24, Matthew 25:46, 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Hebrews 9:27, Revelation 20)
  • We believe salvation is a free gift that is obtained by God’s grace alone through personal faith alone in Christ’s atoning work alone. The shed blood of Jesus Christ provides the only grounds for justification and salvation for everyone who would believe. God freely offers salvation to all people and every person who believes and receives Jesus Christ is born of the Holy Spirit and becomes a child of God with a new nature. This becomes the foundation for a process of regeneration. (Ephesians 2:4-9, Galatians 2:16, 3:11, 5:4-5 Romans 3:28, 5:1, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17)

Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality

  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis 1:26-27.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
  • We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Genesis 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4.) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
  • We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.)
  • We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Restoration Church as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the Restoration Church members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Restoration Church in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22.)
  • We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.)
  • We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Restoration Church.
